Family Birthing Center Tour
Swedish Covenant Hospital's highest priority is the health of our patients, staff and community. Due to the current H1N1 influenza public health incident, Swedish Covenant Hospital has implemented new guidelines for patient visitation. These guidelines are temporary and are part of our effort to protect patients, staff and visitors from infection.
As a result, the 30-minute guided tours of the Family Birthing Center are temporarily canceled. We realize that learning more about the facility and seeing the suites are an important part of helping you decide here to have your birth, so we are working on a virtual tour of the Family Birthing Center and will be posting more photos. We will update these pages as soon as the video and photo gallery are available.
We thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation with these temporary guidelines.

Visiting Guidelines Hours and Guidelines
Swedish Covenant Hospital believes that the presence of family and friends is supportive and essential to our patients' healing process. Our visiting hours are designed to allow family members and friends to visit their loved ones at times that will protect all patients from disruption.
Visitation is welcomed 24-hours, but suggested patient visiting hours are:
9 a.m. - 8 p.m., every day.
Swedish Covenant Hospital's highest priority is the health of our patients, staff and community. During influenza season (October-May), Swedish Covenant Hospital has specific guidelines for patient visitation. These guidelines are part of our effort to protect patients, staff and visitors from infection. These guidelines are:
- Children under the age of 12 are not allowed to visit inpatients on any hospital unit.
- Visitors to obstetric patients are limited to the spouse, significant other or support person of the mother.
- Pediatric visitation is limited to the parents/guardians of the patient. Siblings are not allowed to visit pediatric patients during a public health incident, or during influenza season (October-May).
- Siblings are not allowed to visit newborns in the Family Birthing Center or pediatric patients.
As a reminder, visitors who are experiencing fever or other flu-like symptoms are discouraged from visiting patient at Swedish Covenant Hospital.
The above guidelines pertain to what goes on during influenza season. Between June and September, children under 12 can be on the unit. Below is the excerpt regarding children from the visiting policy.
Child Visitors
It is suggested that children under the age of 12 (per IDPH guidelines) visit between the hours of 9 a.m. and 8 p.m.
- For the safety of child visitors, children under the age of 12 must be accompanied and supervised by an adult (other than the patient) at all times. Children left with a patient are considered unsupervised.
- For the safety of child visitors, parents/guardians will ensure that their children behave in a manner appropriate for the healthcare setting (no yelling, running, jumping on furniture, or any other behavior that poses a safety risk to other patients, visitors, and staff members.) Hospital Staff may ask Parent/Guardians to monitor their children's behavior.
- For the wellbeing of the child and patient, infants and children under the age of 12 are discouraged from visiting patients under isolation precautions.
- During a public health incident or during influenza season (October-May), children under the age of 12 are not allowed to visit patients on any hospital unit.
- Children should not be used as interpreters unless the patient is experiencing a highly urgent medical emergency. Interpretive service is available as a courtesy to hospital patients.
We thank you in advance for your cooperation with these guidelines. Your cooperation will help to keep our patients, staff and community healthy.
